In
addition to the home visits staff have also been involved in community
development work. Forums and local community groups are important
avenues for initiating change and improvement to the environment
in which children are raised. As such project staff have taken up
opportunities to participate in these groups which operate in areas
where many of the staff themselves live.
The Official
Launch
The
Official Launch of the Project by two local children in September
of last year was a great success. The occasion also provided an
opportunity for families in the area to visit the Project and the
children's party which was held in the afternoon was attended by
approximately 250 families. The launch was attended by the European
Officer, two members of the European Parliament, the Local MP and
the Lord Mayor. Representatives for the Local Council, Community
groups, Training & Employment agencies, Further Education colleges
and Health & Social Services also attended. The event received
media attention from newspapers such as; The Belfast Telegraph,
The Irish News, and the News Letter, and was shown on the tea time
news on Ulster Television.
